YES. Always yes. We want you to show up exactly as you are. You don’t need upper body strength, core strength, or any kind of dance background. We teach safe, effective progressions that meet you where you are and help you build strength, skills, and confidence over time. No matter where you’re starting from, you are welcome in our classes.
-
For beginners, we recommend athletic shorts and a top or sports bra that you feel comfortable in. Please do not put on any oil or lotion at least 24 hours before the class. It makes the pole super slippery!
You are not required to wear heels, but you can bring them. No street shoes (including heels) are allowed in the studio, and you’ll be asked to take them off in the reception area. No one wants to roll around on a dirty floor!
-
We recommend clothing that you can easily move in and is breathable. You can always dress in layers and take them off as you go!
-
Please arrive 10–15 minutes early so you have time to fill out a waiver, get familiar with the space, and settle in before we start.
For everyone’s safety, we do not allow anyone to join class more than 8 minutes after it begins, so be sure to show up on time.

Bring water and your bad a$$ self!
For more details about what to bring to each individual class, check out the email you received upon booking. That’s where we will let you know if heels, kneepads, etc. are needed! -
Everyone’s pole journey looks a little different. Keep in mind that how quickly you pick up new skills often depends on how consistently you attend class.
Being kind to your body outside the studio also makes a difference. This includes stretching, conditioning, drinking water, and getting plenty of sleep. All of those efforts help you progress more smoothly as you learn.
With that being said, most beginners start feeling comfortable with foundational moves within a few weeks.
Starting pole dance in the KC metro area at Penny Luck Pole Dance gives you a comfortable entry point into beginner-friendly training that helps you grow at your own pace.
